Buffalo is the flagship research campus of the SUNY system, with a large North Campus in Amherst and a medical campus downtown. Engineering, computer science and management are the biggest draws for international students.

Public university tuition and upstate New York living costs make it considerably cheaper than a private US degree, and there is a long-established Pakistani student association on campus.
